Head coach of Nigeria Gymnastics Federation, Coach Anthony Asuquo has assured that Nigerian young Gymnasts to the forthcoming Regional African Gymnastics Championship in South Africa will do the country proud. The tournament is slated to begin on August 2nd and end on August 8.
Asuquo, who spoke to LEADERSHIP Sports at the athletes’ training camp in Abuja, yesterday, said the gymnasts had been training twice in a day since the commencement of the camp.
“I believe in possibilities and I believe we are going to come out in flying colours.
“We train twice every day and they are ready to go for the championship.
“The competition is slated for August 2 to 8 and it is about improving gymnast in Africa to compete with the rest of the world.
“The competition is a follow-up to last year championship which was also held in South Africa. But going for this one is a very big for me because we have Uche and three other gymnasts coming from another country to compete for Nigeria.
This is also going to serve as a preparation for the All Africa Games and Commonwealth Games. I don’t want us to go to All Africa Games to settle for less. So, we will use this championship as a test run for the All Africa Games and other major championships coming up in future,” he said.
