The venue was the Faculty of Arts Boardroom, University of Lagos, and the book in focus was Henry Akubuiro’s debut novel, Prodigals in Paradise. And as expected it was filled to the brim as students and lecturers from English Department, reporters and other art lovers came to participate in the monthly Book Reading session in honour of writer and journalist Mr. Henry Akubuiro, the Arts Editor of The Sun Newspaper.
The author, Henry Akubuiro, read excerpts of his novel, Prodigals in Paradise, to the excited and elated audience. The host and Head of English Department, University of Lagos, Prof. Hope Eghagha, in his remarks, described Akubuiro as a dynamic, creative, writer and reporter who has won many awards including the BBC World Service “What’s News?” young Reporters Competition 1988, and ANA Literary Journalist of the year 2005.
“Now, it is his turn to be reported and celebrated. He is not just a journalist but also a creative writer. As a creative writer cum journalist, he knows what slant to give to news reports. I have found his reporting very thorough and in-depth in The Sun newspaper and have chronicled creative writing events in reporting and his novel.”
