The Cleveland Browns reached their limit with DeShone Kizer on Sunday.
The rookie quarterback was benched at halftime of the team’s 17-14 loss to the New York Jets. Kevin Hogan replaced him in the lineup.
The Browns trailed 3-0 at the time. Kizer completed just eight of 17 passes for 87 yards and an interception. Hogan finished with 194 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 16-of-19-passing.
Browns coach Hue Jackson said he would have to review film before making any determination about the starter for Week 6.
“I didn’t think (the game) was going in the right direction,” Jackson said. “That’s why I made the decision to take him out. If that was the case and it was just about development, I would have just left him in. It’s not about that. It’s about winning.”
Kizer entered the week with the worst quarterback rating (50.9) of any starter.
Jackson called Kizer his “permanent” starter upon giving him the top job in August. The second-round pick from Notre Dame is the 27th different quarterback to start for the franchise since 1999.
