The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has urged Nigerians to fully embrace policies and schemes of the Bank geared towards strengthening and promoting financial stability and economic growth.
The Gombe State branch controller of the apex bank, Mr. Hamza Jibrin made the called, yesterday during a two-day Sensitization and enlightenment fair organized by CBN in Gombe.
Declaring the fair open at the state international hotel in Gombe, he said the programme which is first of its kind in the state is aimed at sensitizing low income but economically vibrant people on the policies and initiatives of the Bank that would be of great importance to them in strengthening and making their businesses easier.
“We are bringing to your doorsteps activities of the Bank in areas of agriculture, manufacturing and other sectors.”
The branch controller who was represented by Sani Mohammed Chorbe, the head of development finance, noted some of the initiatives to include Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme (ACGS), cashless policy, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund, among others.
He said if well understood the initiatives would be of great benefit to farmers, Cooperatives, entrepreneurs and financial service providers.
Chorbe who said that CBN, is committed and focused towards supporting government and stakeholders in areas of sustaining price stability and development needs, disclosed that last week the apex bank approved the released of over N460 Million for beneficiaries under the ACGS.
The Commissioner of Cooperatives in Gombe, Alh. Yusuf Manu, commended CBN for organizing the programme, noting that it is a very important initiative that would help boost economic activities in the state.
He noted that that the state has over twelve thousand Cooperatives societies of which over 70% of them are fully active.
He then appealed to the apex bank to initiate policies that will make it more easier for this low income farmers and entrepreneurs, who are rural dwellers have access to credit facilities.
